Patricia Lovett has been a scribe for almost 20 years and is the author of a number of calligraphy books. She is a Fellow (and former Chair) of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society (CLAS).Patricia has aimed her Teach Yourself Calligraphy book at people who are new to Calligraphy. The book starts with a chapter dedicated to selecting and using different tools and materials. The chapter on writing calligraphic letters covers in great detail many styles of lettering (Uncials, Foundational Hand, Roman Capitals, Gothic Black Letter and Italics). For each style, there are detailed step by step instructions on how to construct each letter, common mistakes and letter and word spacing. The following chapters cover a wide range of projects; bookmarks, boxes, wraps and greetings cards.A whole chapter is dedicated to producing a small book, with detailed instructions on producing the book covers and binding the pages. The final chapter covers layout and design issues and producing pieces of poetry and prose.Scribblers Calligraphy BooksTeach Yourself Calligraphy

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

We are now stocking books on Copperplate and Ornamental penmanship. The Universal Penman was originally published in the 1740′s compiled from the best specimens of 24 of the leading calligraphers of the day. This book is a treasury of alphabets, decorated pages etc.In our opinion, this is the best book available for studying the Copperplate style of writing especially the capital letters.Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy is a practical guide teaching students the alphabet, numbers and punctuation; how to write simple paragraphs, quotations, poems and more. This is the best book we know of for learning Copperplate minuscules.Ornate Pictorial Calligraphy teaches the traditional ornamental art of “flourishing.” Complete instructions and examples help you create your own magnificent swirls, shaded curves, crisscrossing lines, from which birds, rabbits, deer, ribbons, and other objects gracefully emerge. Over 150 illustrations.Visit our Copperplate Books
